Like a Bigfoot Podcast #69: Eszter Horanyi — Ouray 100, Bikepacking, Life of Adventure

Happy Thanksgiving guys!! As promised we have an awesome episode of the podcast for you this week.

Eszter Horanyi is an adventure athlete who spends her time exploring the public lands of the west.  You can find her mountain biking, running, scrambling, camping and hanging in her scamp trailer with her boyfriend and previous Like a Bigfoot podcast guest Scott Morris.

She has embraced the explorer lifestyle and through her experiences wants to inspire others to fall in love with the wild lands of the U.S.

In this episode we discuss a little race called the Ouray 100 in which Eszter finished 2nd in only her third trail race EVER…which blows my mind!  We also discuss all things mountain biking as her life journey morphed her from a collegiate road cyclist to a badass mountain biker.  We’re sure to hit on bikepacking and all the extremely challenging endurance bike races she’s taken on.

I hope you guys enjoy this episode! The plan is that Eszter will inspire you to kick butt during your post Thanksgiving workouts (which, if anything like mine, are going to be slow and painful due to the belly full of stuffing).

I hope you are inspired by her strength, mindset and the spirit of exploration she embodies!

For all of her adventures, be sure to check out her blog and her instagram as she is an excellent writer and takes some pretty damn good pictures.  She’s about to take off to New Zealand for a few months and are planning on some epic adventures!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #68: Kuntal Joisher — Discovering Your Life’s Mission, Quest to Summit Everest

In 2016, Kuntal Joisher was the first documented vegan to stand on the top of the world.  Mount Everest was a culmination of a journey built around the discovery of his life’s mission and bravery to step outside the norm to pursue something spectacular.

Having never been an athlete and weighing upwards of 240 pounds, Kuntal defied his sedentary lifestyle, fell in love with the Himalayas and started to go after one of the most insanely difficult adventures; the summit of Everest.

His story is energizing, exhilarating, and will move you to “find your Everest”- a worthwhile cause that drives your life in meaning and purpose.

In this episode Kuntal shares the importance of discovering your life’s purpose and how it leads to growth and success, his Everest journey and how he persevered through three separate trips wrought with hardships and tragedy, the emotions that come with finally accomplishing your life’s goal and many other lessons he has learned along the way.

He’s an amazing story teller and I could honestly listen to his adventures all day long.  He’s passionate about veganism, mountaineering, spreading love and positivity and influencing those around him to discover their own passions.

I absolutely loved chatting with Kuntal and hope you guys enjoy this really excellent addition to the Like a Bigfoot Podcast.  Be sure to check out the links below for all things Kuntal Joisher so you can dig deeper into his veganism, excellent photography and his mission as a dementia awareness advocate.

Huge thanks to previous guest, Dr. Kasey Johnson of the Unlock Wellness Podcast for connecting me to Kuntal.  I can’t even express how much I enjoyed having him on the show!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #67: Justin Horneker — Running Coach for Anthrophysique, Successful Training

Very excited this week to share with you this episode of the Like a Bigfoot Podcast with Anthrophysique running coach Justin Horneker.

Over the last month the theme of the show has been exploring the ideas of “expanding our capacity for success” and “transforming inspiration into action.”

This conversation with Justin is really intentional around these two ideas.  I feel like there are a few huge barriers to success:

#1. No accountability

#2.  No Vision or Roadmap

#3. No knowledgeable person to bounce ideas off of

For those of us pursuing running, a great option for minimizing these obstacles is hiring a coach.  Someone like Justin who’s job is to take part in discussions, help set goals, hold you accountable, and really push you to achieve beyond your perceptions.

That’s why I’m pumped to share this convo!

Justin is extremely knowledgeable about all things running and is able to discuss at length the physical demands, the mental challenges and the emotional needs of his athletes.  He is also an active participant in the running world as a previous collegiate athlete and road runner.

In this episode, Justin talks about his experience running cross country in college, his training philosophies based around “Less B.S. and more hard work”, how to handle injuries and complacency, and how to set and achieve goals in the running world.

Thanks so much for listening, I truly appreciate all the support we receive week in and week out!

The Like a Bigfoot Tribe is consistently growing and pushing towards being more successful, awesome people and really spreading goodness around the world and it is completely blowing my mind!! So from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you guys.

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #66: Natalie Larson — Self Supported California Coastal Trail Fastest Known Time

In August Natalie Larson caught an Uber to the Mexican border and set out on the biggest adventure of her life.  44 days 18 hours 40 minutes and 1,171 miles later, she had traversed the entirety of the Californian coast.  Along the way she survived encounters with mountain lions, swam across rivers, and discovered the kindness of strangers.

Natalie’s journey really encapsulates all I respect and love about adventure.

Here’s a bit of the intro to her fantastic blog about the experience (link below):

I saw headlamps from afar that led me to water in the middle of the night. I found a woman’s purse complete with driver’s license, credit cards, sunglasses, from the 70s. I found my way out of a sandstorm on fifty-foot high dunes, scared away a mountain lion by screaming at the top of my lungs, climbed over slippery rocks, raced along the beach to beat the incoming tide, escaped the grasp of a farm worker who grabbed my arm, swam across a river carrying my gear on my head (twice), followed footprints when I couldn’t see through the beach mist at night, tripped, fell, and passed out from the pain along the highway. I dealt with poison oak, an infected blister, and glasses scratched by sandy high-speed winds. I slept under trees beside the road, on the beach, and in campgrounds where I shared food with the homeless. By San Francisco I had started to resemble a homeless person and the homeless recognized me as one of their own, asking me for gear tips and warning me that the police were “on the war path.”

Her story truly is AWESOME

I hope you guys enjoy the episode and feed off of the inspiration from Natalie to move forward on your own dreams!

Congratulations again Natalie.  You are an inspiration!  Keep being you and kick some ass on whatever your next big thing is!
