Like a Bigfoot #262: Terry Miller — Uncovering the Strength It Takes to Finish the Hardrock 100

Imagine going after a Hardrock entry for nearly a decade before finally getting your shot. How deep would you be willing to dig for something you’ve been working towards for years? What would you learn by pushing yourself to your absolute limits in your relentless pursuit of the finish line?

That’s the story of this week’s guest Terry Miller! With 12 minutes and 17 seconds to spare Terry was the last person who was able to cross the finish line and kiss the rock at this year’s race through the rugged San Juan Mountains. The race was all at once a dream come true and the most difficult event he had ever endured.

In this episode Terry shares his incredible story of the race along with some tales from 14ers (which he’s climbed all of) and some reflections on dad mode.

Hope you guys enjoy the episode!! Terry is quite the incredible human being!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #261: Lucja Leonard — Mohican 100 and Taking on the Triple Crown of 200s

This week we are chatting with Lucja Leonard about her recent finish of the Mohican 100, her history as an ultra runner and her upcoming challenge taking on the triple crown of 200s!!

Lucja recently went back to the Mohican 100 in Ohio to complete the very first 100 she attempted. In this episode we chat all about her experience getting payback on this race before diving into stage racing and how she is training for her upcoming attempt at tackling Bigfoot, Tahoe and Moab.

We also talked briefly about crewing her husband Dion at the Badwater 135 (the race just finished and we recorded this episode a few weeks ago! I’m happy to report that Dion placed 6th in a very stacked field in a ridiculously hard ultra marathon).

Hope you guys enjoy the episode!!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #260: Thomas Mullins 2 — Taking Inventory, Battling the Cocodona 250

This week we welcome back one of my favorite people in the world Thomas Mullins!

Thomas is an excellent ultrarunner and adventurer who has taught me more about the sport than anyone else. He is a wealth of knowledge and always seems so cool and collected during these epic adventures.

As a multitime 200 miler finisher it was really interesting to get his perspective on the newly created Cocodona 250. The race seems like an absolute beast that takes runners 250 miles through the rugged deserts and mountains of Arizona. With a stoic sense of relentless forward progress, Thomas battled his way through what seems like an extremely difficult beginning 60 miles, possible ufo sightings (that’s a first for the show!), running out of water and brief battles of negative self talk.

He is a huge proponent of slowing down and taking inventory during these big adventures and this episode highlights how that strategy pays off big time!!

It’s hard to express how much I appreciate this dude! I’m so glad our paths crossed! Much love buddy!

Hope you enjoy this episode!!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #259: Mike Mikucki — Adventures While Climbing the Colorado 14ers

This week I’m very excited to sit down and chat with a great neighbor, friend, and fellow lover of the mountains of Colorado Mike Mikucki!!

Mike’s quest to climb all the Colorado 14ers (Mountains over 14,000 feet) started when he was very young. Over his teenage years his dad and him began hiking these mountains during the summer until eventually they found themselves finishing every single one of the 58 or 53 or 54 (depending on how you qualify what makes a 14er).

This is the first of hopefully a few episodes where Mike shares his adventures climbing these mountains! It has it all- literal cliffhangers, lightning storms, altitude sickness, and two dads dreaming of the day they will hike these with their kids!!

Enjoy!!
