This week we are welcoming my amazing coworker, lifelong runner, and all around awesome dude Chris Cornejo!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #123: Paul Scheuring — Quad Dipsea, Meditation, Writing, and Marathon Des Sables

This week I’m very excited to bring Paul Scheuring back on the show!

Paul was originally on episode 101 sharing some awesome stories from our time at the Desert RATS Stage Race this summer.

This time he’s talking about his recent adventure running the Quad Dipsea, a race that has 9,200 feet of climbing in 28 miles….which sounds like a BEAST!  Then we chat a bit about 10 day meditation retreats, the similarities between running and writing (he’s a professional writer who has written a bunch of awesome stuff), and we wrap up by talking about his time taking on the Marathon des Sables through the Sahara.

Incredibly fun episode and, honestly, I just enjoyed catching up with an awesome dude!

( “He’s a writer, so I have to make this post sound good…and stuff.” – Me to my wife

“What’s the ‘Awesome Count’?” – Lindsey

*quietly re-reading and counting under my breath

“Three…..shit….” – Me )

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #121: Tony Nguyen — “Endorphin Dude”, From Non-Athlete to Lifelong Runner

This week we are welcoming the super energetic and awesome Tony Nguyen to the show!

Tony has an incredible story of transforming himself from a non-athlete, self professed “last in gym class” to a man who has gone all in on the running community.  After a heart attack scare, he started walking.  Walking turned into running.  Running turned into becoming a Marathon Maniac.  That became transforming into an ultra runner.

Tony’s story is one of re-invigoration and becoming energized through activity.  It’s also one of extreme perseverance, how to use failure to achieve success, and the power of positivity!

You can find all of his stuff by looking up Endorphin online.  Enjoy!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #120: Katie and Jason Parker — Van Life, Why They Are Taking a Year to Chase Adventure

This week we are chatting with Katie and Jason Parker about what it takes to remodel a van, quit your jobs, and hit the road in search of adventure!

Three years ago they bought an old Ford van, gutted it, and spent their time together remodeling it into a living space.  Currently, they are about four months into a year long road trip that will take them completely around the country.  In those short four months they have faced down bison and bears, survived brake failures at in-opportune moments (i.e.- going down the steepest hill they’ve driven on), learned what it takes to keep a healthy relationship while living in a tight space, and have seen some of the most stunning places in the west.

Hope you guys enjoy this episode! The lessons I took away are how simplifying our lives brings about freedom and a reminder to place importance on travel and seeking adventure.

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #119: Jennifer Mabus 2 — Adventures from the Pacific Crest Trail

This week we are welcoming back Jennifer Mabus to hear some stories from her adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail!!

While hiking from Mexico to Canada, Jennifer experienced what truly can be described as an epic adventure.  In this episode she shares stories from the trail, how she felt to reach the last mile of her journey, how the PCT community supported each other along the way, and what it is like to face down a mountain lion in the dead of night armed only with a  rock and a knife.  (In my opinion, her week long mountain lion encounters are some of the most intense stories that have been shared through all of our shows!)

I really hope you enjoy this episode and use Jennifer’s inspiration and positivity to step up to the challenges in your life.  Maybe it will even motivate you to take on the unknowns of an adventure!!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #118: Matt Rackers 2 — Running His First Trail Race!

This week we are welcoming back my cousin Matt Rackers from one of our earliest episodes!!

Back then Matt had just finished his very first half marathon.  This time, he is fresh off completing his self made trifecta where he finished an obstacle course race one weekend, a half marathon the next, and his first trail 25k on the third weekend.

In this episode we talk all about these experiences, what drives Matt to take on challenges, what kind of goals he sets during the year (including playing golf in a three piece suit), and what he learned about himself when he found himself alone in the woods for a majority of the 25k.

I laughed harder and smiled more in this episode than I have in quite awhile! It’s always a joy catching up with Matt and I truly hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did!!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #117: Rob Pope — The Real Life Forrest Gump, Running 15,000 Miles Across America 5 Times

“That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run.” – Forrest Gump

I’m extremely excited to welcome Rob Pope, the real life Forrest Gump, to this week’s show!

Over the last few years, Rob has taken on the EPIC challenge of recreating Forrest Gump’s famous run.  Over 15,000 miles across the United States 5 times, he tested the limits of his own endurance and experienced the U.S. to the absolute fullest.  Over his year and a half adventure he experienced highs and lows, received major support from strangers along the way, and ran through some of the most iconic places in the country.  The human connections he made, along with the places he explored were life changing.  Completing the challenge was absolutely unprecedented.

Today’s episode is all about this INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE.

Rob shares how one of his last conversations with his mother about “Doing one thing that makes a difference in this world” inspired this challenge.  He also chats about the adventures he had along the way, along with the obstacles he had to overcome (including a torn quadricep..yikes!).  We also talk a lot about one of my favorite subjects….Tom Hanks!

Please check out Rob’s website.  He would love your help supporting two excellent charities- Peace Direct and World Wildlife Fund.

Enjoy!!
