Like a Bigfoot Podcast #278: Addie Bracy — “Mental Training for Ultrarunning”, Winning Run Rabbit Run

This week we are chatting with elite athlete and author of “Mental Training for Ultrarunning” Addie Bracy!!

Addie is an elite ultrarunner and, as a certified Mental Performance Consult, an expert in mental training for athletes.

In this episode we focus mostly on the mental rollercoaster an ultrarunner faces during a run which is what first got me interested in the sport and what still captures my imagination today! What drives someone forward when faced with anguish and adversity? How does the mind grow throughout an ultra journey? How does one develop a solid mental game to push them through the lowest of lows in a race?

Addie also shares stories from her excellent race at the Run Rabbit Run 100 miler this fall in which she placed first!

This is a great episode and I HIGHLY recommend Addie’s book!!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #276: Bob Kauffman — Chasing Adventure, Bikepacking and Exploring

Bob Kauffman is literally in my phone contacts as “Bob Adventurer”.

Bob is an incredibly friendly and active guy who has found a lifelong passion for adventure and exploring! He also loves sharing his passion with anyone and everyone around him.

In this episode we talk about his various adventures climbing mountains, bikepacking and exploring the outdoors, including trekking to Everest Base Camp, tandem biking the Kokopelli Trail with his buddy Erik Weihenmayer, various bike packing routes, and taking on a little known route to cross Capital Reef National Park.

This was an extremely enjoyable conversation and I am honored to chat with Bob and proud that he slowed down enough on his mountain bike to let me keep up when we biked the 14 mile White Ranch Loop out near our town!

Enjoy!

Like a Bigfoot #275: Adam Shoalts 2 — “The Whisper on the Night Wind”, Expedition to the Wilds of Labrador

This week explorer, adventurer, and author Adam Shoalts sits down to talk about his expedition to the wilds of Labrador in search of a mysterious creature…

“Adam Shoalts is a professional explorer and best-selling author. In 2013, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society for “extraordinary contributions to geography” and in 2017 completed a nearly 4,000 km solo journey across Canada’s Arctic.”

Beyond that he is a person who deeply loves the outdoors and the act of exploration and discovery. He is also a geologist and historian deeply fascinated with the Canadian Wilderness and the history of the people who inhabited it.

In his latest book The Whisper on the Night Wind, Adam captures an expedition he took to solve a historic mystery:

“In the early 1900s, Traversepine, an isolated little settlement was the scene of an extraordinary haunting by large creatures none could identify. Strange tracks were found in the woods. Unearthly cries were heard in the night. Sled dogs went missing. Children reported being stalked by a terrifying grinning animal. Families slept with cabin doors barred and axes and guns at their bedsides.”

The book was a great read which you should check out if you’re into wilderness expeditions, history, or tales of mystery and intrigue!

Hope you all enjoyed the episode with Adam as much as I did!!

Like a Bigfoot Podcast #274: Sabrina White — Mosquitos, Misadventures, 100 Miles, Helicopters, RATS and Yeti

This week we are sitting down with Sabrina White to hear all about mosquitos, misadventures, helicopters, the Desert RATS Stage Race and the Yeti 100, her very first 100 mile race!!

Sabrina is an AWESOME human being who I had the pleasure of meeting at the stage race this summer. I was extremely impressed with her perseverance and positive attitude throughout everything the Kokopelli threw at her (which was A LOT). I really wanted to  hear the tales from her follow-up adventure at the Yeti.

In this episode, Sabrina shares stories from both of those races and so much more! She talks about rock climbing misadventures, how being a helicopter pilot compares to substitute teaching pre-school, and how to survive a 100k race at the aptly named Dismal Swamp in southeastern Virginia.

I truly hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did!! Sabrina is an excellent storyteller and will definitely be back on to chat adventures in the future!
